A few of the old independent 5 & 10’s still hang on. Though I’m sure the prices have changed a bit.
In my NYC neighborhood we had both Woolworth’s and Kresge to roam through.
The windows were covered for the most part but a hand written sign had the hours of operation. Sunday is the best time to shoot in these towns so everything was closed. It also means few people or cars in the shots.
I don’t think there was a big selection inside.
….as a child, I successfully shoplifted a goldfish from the five-and-dime, Neisner’s in Rochester, N.Y.
That makes you a pro LOL. I can smell all the tanks in the back of the store! Also… I think there are many of us that learned art of ‘borrowing’ in the 5&10. I read it on the internet.
….hahahaha. Yep. Walked out the front door with the white ‘take out’ style box and little metal handle, with my goldfish swimming inside.
My hero 😂😂. In NYC anyone under 15 was followed up and down the aisle. 🤣🤣
