This young Black-crowned Night Heron wants to fish in the spot water moves between a salt marsh and the big marsh. It doesn’t matter if we are there, he will just chase us away.

Night Herons are notoriously shy, except him.

These were taken as he circled in front of me… I was in his spot.

Being a fast bird I missed the first series. Keeping a close quick bird in the view finder is tricky. One that turns and comes towards you is even worse.

He gave me plenty of opportunities though.
Great shots, Ted. I have personally never photographed a night heron in flight, but assume it’s not easy, since they are so much smaller than Great Blue Herons. It helps if you get multiple chances, but there is definitely no guarantee of success.
