Across The Water, Great Blue

Across The Water, Great Blue

Part wildlife, part landscape. Late summer to early spring the style of photography takes a big change for me. These shots are a good example.

Spring -Ssummer the best place to shoot is in the swamp areas. Birds are nesting, everything is feeding other mouths, and you have activity ‘right in your face’. Having an Egret push right by you is common.

Now most large birds are in big marshes. They have more territory and food is all around. I enjoy creating images with both the subject and environment on display. There are less opportunities on any given day though.

Here I was shooting at the far end of my lens length and less light meant shooting at a slower speed.

On cloudy days I may use a monopod which can be an adventure all on it’s own but it keeps me steady at 500+ mm.

Not everybody likes a monopod. I think the key is having the right gear for how you shoot. I was lucky years ago to have a good camera store to shop with various vendors and styles to try. Knowing what works for me now is great since the nearest retail camera store is hundreds of miles away.
