How do you get to shoot a Night Heron in flight? Have one fly circles around you. With an Alligator nearby of course.
These small Herons are pretty fast, and shy.
However this juvenile wasn’t sure where to land, so for a few minutes he didn’t.
I don’t think I have ever captured this many in flight of a Night Heron before, he gave me plenty of opportunities. In several shots you can see an Alligator in the background.

I hope the gator didn’t get him. Beautiful photos!
It takes more work than it’s worth for one to catch any small Herons. A fish, crab, those are easy. The Night Herons practically walk on them at times.
