This pair have a large nest built over years. It’s high up and away from prying eyes. Eagles, even more than most birds, do not like to nest near disturbances.
Around the base of these incredibly tall pines is swamp lands. Keeps most people away.
If that doesn’t work an Alligator of ‘epic’ proportions lives here. We went past the nesting pines, into the swamp before taking these. The ‘big guy’ had left a reminder he was around. A cached deer carcass under a log. They like to save prey for later. (I haven’t read anything Ellen has published about the Eagles, bet she left out the carcass though LOL).
Now that we know the nesting is about to start we won’t be going far down the paths anymore. With luck we will get to watch from a distance.
Majestic photographs! They are preparing for the nesting, aren’t they?
Yes, their yearly nest is nearby. Thanks.
Yikes! Those pathways are not for the faint of heart. I see the draw though.
After a bit you figure out the rules, do’s and don’ts, and then the biggest problem is mud and fire ants.
You forgot to mention the mosquitoes, another way to keep the humans away! And you are right, I skipped mentioning the carcass although I did take a picture.
LOL, now see… even I did not take a shot of a dead thingie.
