OK, This article is version two, same photographs but hopefully a better layout. If you read the first article…sorry.
First an explanation. WordPress, this software service, is changing their editing interface. A large change but I felt it would be wise to give it a try.
I tried. Oh yeah… I have an extensive IT history. We owned a software company that created on-line banking and investment systems. Eventually sold it to an international investment firm.
The title, Like A Train Wreck had nothing to do with software. It was the perfect title though to cover the first test and the Egret/Alligator story below. I kept the title.
The story is simple with multiple photographs of the scene.
Across a marsh, pretty far, an Egret was fishing. And it was surrounded by Alligators. Thus the ‘train wreck’.
All ended well but I just had to watch from a far, and grab too many, too dark, images as it happened.
Below the photographs all have dark shapes almost pushing the Egret. Another one of those ‘you can’t make this stuff up’ situations.
I also gave tried a new WP editor, I struggled and decided to stay with classic editor for a while. Ted, these are unique photos of Great Egret! Fishing surrounded by alligators is dangerous, but I am glad to know that everything ended well.
All went well. BTW, the old editor is probably going off line in December.

Great title for the series! Ted, you mentioned Classic is going off line in December. What does that mean if you are still using Classic? My ten years’ of posts would disappear?
Posts are fine. The code in your old galleries probably will not work. None of mine, or others do. To make or update a post the new block editor will be the only option.
I can tell you that my initial tests show 5 to 7 steps to add an image rather than 2. In general more steps to complete tasks.
All my opinion. I do have 30 years on-line design experience, we owned a firm designing bank investment systems. I think it is very similar to old editors by Microsoft and Adobe that were for new users. New users, bloggers, will have no patience for learning an IT block layout. They want to type a story, show an IPhone photo…
I will use it for a while and if it is not what I need then move on. We pay approx $300 per year for each of our multiple sites and using IT editors I can do anywhere. I choose not to.
What do you mean by “the code in your old galleries probably will not work”? Dumb here, I’ve done my blog while holding on to the seat of my pants. lol All I’ve ever done is upload posts with photos to my blog.
In the past if you grouped images together and used the ‘Gallery’ option when making a post they displayed almost like a slide show.
As WP has updated their system older themes don’t always work as they had in the past. Mine is a good example. My theme was done in 2014, now 2020 WordPress is different. My galleries no longer run on a Tablet (IPad).
The new block editor reflects the new WP systems. Again, older items will no longer run. Themes will need to be changed.
As the new editor becomes what you use some things just take more work. You might as well start using it.
The only thing WP will have better than other services is “Reader’ where followers are. Right now Reader has problems which I think relates to block editor.
Some experienced users will probably go elsewhere. Me included, but each person will make up their own mind.
Thanks for the explanation, I believe I understand now. I’m not sure how old my theme is. I’m going to start checking my posts (new and old) out through my husband’s subscription, I hadn’t thought of that til you mentioned you and Ellen check each others. Thanks again, hopefully I can succeed at this. 🙂
