Salad With His Meal, Green Heron

Salad With His Meal, Green Heron

This Green Heron was waiting for the right moment. It was obvious he had something in his sights.

Ellen (PassingByPhoto.com , click here for her shots) and I were shooting from different angles, the Heron was too busy to care.

Half the time when waiting for the strike I miss it because the lens gets too heavy to keep holding steady. Not this time.

Whatever caught was tiny, and in the underwater grass.

The Green Heron was fine with eating the little fish along with some greens.

Full disclosure; I had my ‘one size fits all’ lens on. So weight was half of a big one. Heavy, but not bad.

  1. Ted, a few weeks ago we had a very special day. A Green Heron visited Farmington Bay ( Northern Utah) for a few days. I missed only one day and didn’t see him but other local photographers were so fortunate to photograph this bird. I can’t forgive myself for missing that day…
    Your photographs are great!!!

    1. Thanks. I get those β€˜missing’ things times too πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€. Large flocks came to the marshes and I didn’t get out that far. I was sure that was it for the year! A few days later they came back…while I was there.

Some days you get the shot, others days you get shot. Works out in the end πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
