There are few opportunities to get shots like these. When you do get the chance it’s a good assumption your settings would be for a closeup, not explosion.

This day not only did I catch the mass exit, they flew in a circle coming right back to the area.

It’s an adventure. Truth be told most shots of these mass exits are not very good. Too much going on to have anything stand out. These each had a few individual birds that worked well.
I know this has to be a beautiful sight!
It is. Usually not great shots, most times they wait until you lower your lens, but sometimes you do catch it right.
