A Black-crowned Night Heron

For most of the summer I had been bemoaning the fact adult Night Herons were missing. However, at the start of November and up until now they have made up for lost time.

This one sat above me as I photographed some Alligator and Egrets never moving. I ignored him thinking he might change a branch and give me a better view.

Finally I took these because he was comfortable up away from me and going no place.

Below is an example of a juvenile Black-crowned. Very different for the first 18 months or so.

  1. I especially loved seeing the juvenile, Ted. Juveniles always challenge my identification skills, such as they are, because the colors and patterns of the youngsters are often quite different from those of the parents.
