Lately all the attention has been on the visiting big White Pelicans. It’s easy since they move into the marshes where the Spoonbill, Wood Stork, and others are.

Right down the road, very close, are the Brown Pelicans. Being salt water birds they avoid marshes.

Personally I prefer them, much more character.

It doesn’t hurt that they tolerate people much better.

If you see a shrimp boat, you have Brown Pelicans.
These brown Pelicans look so unique with their color patterns. Must be their winter time look. 🙂 I have seen them just once in Florida.

I prefer them to the bigger White Pelican. They are more acrobatic in the air, fish from 100 feet up, just a great animal to watch.

Yes, truly impressive to watch them dive.

I saw only once a Brown Pelican, he landed in Northern Utah last year during October, he probably lost his way during migration. These Brown Pelicans are amazing! You created such beautiful photographs of them, Ted!

Thank you. Nothing better than watching them dive for fish. Make the Osprey look lazy 😂
