Double-crested Cormorant

Double-crested Cormorant

A sure sign of winter. Most of the year it would be an Anhinga sitting right there.

Come winter and suddenly it’s a Cormorant instead.

Both birds are the same family, ‘Darters’. Underwater hunters. But the Anhinga is strictly tropical. The air gets cold and they are gone. A nice Central America vacation for 2 – 3 months.
