A Most Under Rated Heron

A Most Under Rated Heron

This particular shot caught the many different shades and colors of a Little Blue Heron.

Most times the light shows them just very dark. But sometimes you can get the purple and magenta shining through.

Truly a beauty.

  1. I agree wholeheartedly with the title of your post. I love watching these guys from youngsters to adulthood – what a transformation of colors. What I love best, though, is watching how they forage – they have such a unique style.

    1. We have a rookery near my home where we can watch ‘flight school’. They teach young to fly by running just in front of them with food. Suddenly they run out into the air chasing the food, and then they are taught to fly. Great to watch.

    2. Fun!☺️ We see a lot of little blue herons individually or in small numbers. Used to be regular nesting spots in one of our local Wetlands but I don’t recall seeing this behavior. I’ll have to keep an eye out this season!
