I captured these shots as an Egret came up out of a grass patch of dike.
I missed the first take off, and a few other shots were just a blur. But as he came by I hit focus and grabbed these.
He was over open water, a large pond that was once a big rice field. Actually many of the larger ponds started out that way.
Some are still kept open through the use of dikes, others still fed by dikes merge out into huge marshes.
The marshes here are about 32 Km, 8,000 acres. This particular pond is a 4 mile drive on a dirt road.
