Heading into the marshes we stopped by to check on ‘Mom’. She is right off the dirt road we use. And yes, she was lying on the big marsh side.
However, I looked in both known spots and found not a single young one. They do have a high mortality rate, but she did have around 40 so some might have been in deep grasses.
Female Alligators have a specific breeding territory they protect and keep. Nests are piled vegetation.
Little factoid… the heat of the nest will dictate the main sex of the babies. Light on details though.
