Something was going on across the marsh but I could not tell what it was. History says take the shot, at worse I get a simple Great Egret photograph.
(best viewed large, I was not close)
Above the Egret is posturing at attention, which is what caught my eye. However if you look close a very large fish is plowing through the water.
It’s probably too large for the bird, but he is considering it. Another piece of drama is about to enfold for the Egret… Red-winged coming in from the right.
The fish was still nearby, but so was the Black Bird. The smaller bird is squawking and taunting the Egret, from very close.
The Egret stopped moving, the big fish was gone, and the smaller Red-winged Black Bird stood her ground.
Eventually the Egret strolled off. The small bird most likely was protecting a nest in the reeds.
Again, the details of this were not close enough to catch until I viewed the images. Certainly not the first time I shot and found details later.
Never know what you will see, or find, out there.
