This is one of the first shots I took at the Avian Conservancy a few days ago.
Three handlers introduced a few raptors to visitors. The Lanier Falcon above is wearing the traditional jesses (anklet ties) to allow the handler to keep the bird close.
A Lanier is a smaller falcon typically called a ‘Lady Bird’. In early falconry noble women owned Lanier’s or perhaps a Kestrel.
The falcon above was not comfortable with children, the primary makeup of the audience. After a little while she was returned to her area.
