Edge Of A Marsh, Green Heron

Edge Of A Marsh, Green Heron

A day when Green Herons were out, and not too shy.

Above, this is a habit I have never seen in other birds. Flicking his tongue out, licking his bill. It’s common in these small Herons

I stayed in one place and this Green Heron poked all around, completely ignoring me.

  1. Great shots, Ted. I have always felt that Green Herons have more personality than other herons and you show that off really well. I especially love the shot with the Mohawk look as the heron was scratching an itch.

    1. Thanks. We always look for them. And yes, more personality. 👍. In flight Bitterns look very similar. But who ever gets to really see Bitterns, so I always assume Green Heron. Of course today we found at least 6 Bitterns…well Bittern bird butts.

  2. I always like to look at your photos of Green Herons. It’s fascinating how the Heron is exploring the marsh.
