Juvenile Wood Stork

Juvenile Wood Stork

In general a Wood Stork is a ‘unique’ looking bird. Different than most.

This is a juvenile, hatched this spring. There is a rookery maybe 15 miles from this marsh where he likely came from. Stork rookeries are still a rare thing in the Lowcountry making it great to see these young birds.

They are ‘back from the brink’ and no longer endangered thanks to rookeries and large marshlands like these. Wood Storks breeding here only began recently.

ACE Basin, South Carolina.
