There are rules of the road while walking a dike, just like driving a car.
This one is stop, look both ways, continue if clear.
People use the center, going straight over the dike.
Alligators use the sides, crossing the dike. You can see in these photographs the ground is rough… and wet. It’s a very active crossing.
And yes, at times you give a quick glance and keep moving. Other times, like driving, the first one there has the right of way.
