I think this male Heron wants to settle down on a nest from last year.

This is good, and bad. Using an existing nest will make the work load much easier. There’s still work, but in this case it’s half finished. Just needs repairs.

However, a female needs to show up quickly. If this male leaves to hunt there is no other bird to protect the nest. Another male will certainly claim it too. That leads to trouble.
