I shot over 150 images, for around 10 minutes, and at the end photographed things a little different than I had seen them. Confusing yes. I tracked a single Pelican catching and fighting huge catfish. But later I discovered it was maybe several Pelicans with several catfish.
They pretty much all look the same when swirling around and splashing.
It started when a group of White Pelicans swam right by me. One was struggling to eat something.
Suddenly the whole crew dived down grabbing fish, or trying to.
One had a winner ! Experience told him to leave the others quickly if he wanted to keep the prize. Experience told the others to follow him.
The Pelicans were all circling around, pushing, but the lucky fisherman held tight. I was getting decent views of his catch. Bull Catfish.
Finally the others went back to fishing leaving him alone… to deal with this thing he had in his mouth. I can tell you the Pelicans pouch was dancing !! Not a happy fish.
Note; the full series of photographs will be published in three articles. Even cutting down to a minimum of photos was too many for a single post.
