This young bird has been on his own most of the time now, but he’s big enough.
Just in the background is a Great Egret on a nest that was built almost right on top of the heron. They fought for a while until they both got tired of it.

It has been several years since I visited the rookery in Venice. Maybe next year.
I must admit, this year has been slipping away and I am stopping by our local rookery less than usual.
