This is a male, all black, Anhinga. They nest in Heron and Egret rookeries. Maybe safety in numbers.

I took this as a long shot to show the Palms and Live Oak growing on this small island.

Smaller wading birds like the Snowy and Tricolors will nest in thicker hidden parts of this island.
