    1. This spot was an original grave yard for the Independent Church in Charleston, also known as the Society of Dissenters 1772. The alley if followed ends on the other side of the busy street at what is called the ‘Circular Church’ of 1681. Both were meeting houses.

      In the late 1600’s Charleston was a destination of Christian denominations persecuted in Europe. We probably have hundreds of old large churches. The grave yards literally overlap in places. Which is why we have old gothic cemeteries along the marshes. War and disease filled the churches. Tons of cemetery images on the site.
