Spotted this Black-bellied Whistling Duck on an old Wood Duck box. Not sure how a big Whistler would fit, but they must. Not the first time I’ve seen this in the swamps.
At least the old box is getting some use.

The shot’s a bit dark, this was taken pretty early in the morning.
I just saw one of these in central Texas when I was walking in the park a couple of days ago. It was sitting up in an oak tree.
Pretty big for a wild duck isn’t it 😁😁. Around 4 years ago a few showed up in the South Carolina Lowcountry for the first time. More keep coming. This spring I found 100 in a marsh.
They are not very ‘survival savvy’ from what I can see. We have all types of things that like duck. I see them parading their young around out in the open now. I’m sure they will learn.
I was kind of surprised to see them way up in an OK tree making racket. They looked kind of lost.
I have heard them called ‘tree ducks’ LOL
