Wildlife photographers are happy, excited really, to see Black Skimmers. Hard to catch, fast, just one of the big nature challenges.
We were quick to hit the marsh bank as soon as these appeared. They did give us a good work out.
However, a few minutes after these images we walked the causeway going onto Bear Island. Halfway over, hundreds of Black Skimmers swept in.
All the marshes around ACE Basin had Skimmers. A few miles down the road, in Alligator country, they even dodged around the gators fishing. Towards the end of the afternoon we stopped shooting Skimmers.
I had 1,600 photographs.
The good news is a large number will be misses, these birds make you miss. Better news, I won’t publish them all 😂.
I would certainly be happy to watch these birds and even more happy if I would be able to get one decent shot of them in flight. Ted, this is a great photograph!
