Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

One of the newer churches in Charleston. Built of Connecticut, USA, brownstone. From an old quarry we lived near for 30+ years. Everything is connected somehow.

On our way to lunch in town the other day we passed by and went in for a few quick shots. I only grabbed some from the back since the church was not empty. Respectful photographers get asked back.

  1. Your photo is lovely! The interior of the church is very beautiful and it seems to me that it would have the feel of a sanctuary.

    1. Thank you. It’s actually huge. This is the second building, the first burned in 1861. Charleston had a tremendous fire, burning a large part of the town. A few years later the city was in the center of our civil war. Probably the rest of the building was blown up. Took a while to rebuild.
