Swallow-tailed Kite

Most people don’t see any type of Kite, a Swallow-tailed Kite is even more hard to find. They breed from the southeastern United States to eastern Peru and northern Argentina. However, being in the US at all is fairly new. Another transplant to our summer tropical heat.

Like all Kites they feed on the fly, primarily on Dragonflies grabbed with their claws in midflight. If a raptor can grab small prey, with their claws, while flying you know they are incredibly agile.

Because they can do such acrobatics any in flight shot is a lot of work.

Suddenly I got a text message… ‘Look up. They’re right over your head’.
