Yes, these are strange little critters. A very young nine-banded Armadillo. He was with his three brothers when I shot this.
And yes, he was a male.
Armadillos are born as a set of four exact clones. Exact clones, so yes the other three had to be male also.
I was surprised he was curious and sat up to look at me. Their eye sight is horrible. Being around two months old and just away from the mother maybe he was still figuring out his new world.
In an odd way this little ‘space alien’ was actually cute. Since they don’t have many natural enemies he has a good chance of growing up safely.
This was another case of ‘you never know what you will find out there’.

Everything about these critters is not what you expect LOL. Humans are the only danger to them, even Bobcats can’t hurt them until they learn how to flip them over. They just go about their day…
