They are such beautiful birds. A few years ago we had an ice storm in winter. There was a great blue Herring that was standing on one leg in the middle of the yard. We thought he might be injured so I looked it up on line. It was just resting. The article said just consider it a blessing and leave the bird alone. He was wrapped up in his wings. The Heron was gone about three hours later. 🦋
There are some Great Blue Herons that will stay in the north all winter. I have photographed them in snow storms along the Atlantic Ocean. Tough birds.
