Black-bellied Whistling Duck

Black-bellied Whistling Duck

We were crossing an earthen causeway leaving Bear Island when we spotted this group on the edge of the reeds. There’s no room to stop here, but these are Whistlers and the marshes were empty. Basically we cheated. (Of course the only truck for miles came and had to squeeze by. Oh yeah, it was the local ranger)

I know others have seen them here recently. This must be the new hang out.
