A photograph shot from the back road on the far side of Mary’s Pond. I’m not sure who Mary was but her name is used all over ACE Basin.
The ‘pond’ separates Bear Island from the rest of the basin. Just the pond itself is home to hundreds of different species. These include the usual Herons and Egrets. Also Otter, Alligators, Eagles, and Osprey live right here.
Bear is a South Carolina Wildlife Area where people are just temporary visitors. Each year from November to February the main gates and causeway entrance are locked down… tight.
