In A Swamp, Belted Kingfisher

In A Swamp, Belted Kingfisher

I just went into a swamp looking for Owls. No Owls, however mosquitoes everywhere and hungry.

The excited loud calls of a Kingfisher stopped me. They are almost never in thick swamps like this, they don’t have to be. There is plenty of water and marshes for them.

I didn’t think any of the shots would have even a hint of the bird. Spanish Moss and leafy branches were always in the way. As usual few options with going wading.

I did rule 101, took the shots.

By the time I grabbed these the mosquitoes were having a feast so I left him there.

    1. Thank you. He did seem to fit 😁. As for the bites, well some can transmit disease, mostly to animals. Malaria was a big problem and this was how it spread. That’s gone here now. A bite can itch like crazy !! Many bites not fun either. Ellen reacts poorly to them…and they like to bite her.
