While Snowy Egrets are known to be aggressive, Roseate Spoonbills are the complete opposite. Half the time they act like a clown.

Not this time.

Here a Snowy Egret dropped down to push the Spoonbill off this ‘perfect’ marsh tree. A surprise, the Spoonbill snapped and barked back.

The smaller Egret immediately twisted and backed off. A snapping Spoonbill beak sounds like two bats hitting each other. Loud and shocking. It was best for the Egret to move away.

However, this is a Snowy, with the Egret bad attitude. He saved face by landing out of reach. The Spoonbill watched, he had kept the spot and made his point.

  1. What a great series. I do see Spoonbills and Snowies feeding together in the shallows from time to time, but this was a fun and interesting peek into another side of their personalities.
