Pelican Parade

Pelican Parade

This was a long line of White Pelicans.

There was no way for a different angle. Also it was only a matter of time before they either turned away, or did a complete exit.

There were probably 50 – 60 individual birds in this group so I didn’t move, I wanted as many shots as possible.

Eventually they turned away towards the far side of the creek. There were multiple groups like this, we moved to a close by open spot and watched them in flight for a while.

The big creek here doesn’t have a lot of people around. The Pelicans will take flight however they tend to move up and down the open water not leaving the area. It’s a safe haven for them.

Yawke wildlife area, South Carolina.

    1. It’s very cool to see big groups like this. These birds are huge, and hefty 😂. It’s a close contest who is bigger in the air, the condor or White Pelican. Both are the largest birds in North America. Pelicans look bigger because they are so wide 😳
