Out the other day I was carrying my walk around lens, 18-400 Tamron. It’s like a ‘jack of all trades’ and covers such a wide range I keep it close by. I do try to keep it at 300 or so for wildlife. I find the various short comings above that.

The marsh has many inlets from the ocean that we have seen Dolphin at high tide. A bone yard beach is not far and some days you can start shooting at the shore and finish in marshes.

  1. It has been snowing for the second day in a row, and is so nice to look at your marshes scenes. They are so beautiful! I also learned today that you often use the Tamron 18-400 mm lens. You got me interested in it.

    1. I do t think so. I have a love / hate relationship with this lens. I loose what I think should be good shots, then next thing I get something very nice.

Low light can be a problem, at 18-24 you can find chromatic aberration, at 400 the stabilization is not great.

However, 😂😂. The range is great, good light it works well, and it’s almost a macro lens.

I can’t find a better replacement for walking around and still having a chance at a decent long lens shot. The price is good too.

And… Mike Powell has gotten very nice shots with his.

So, a love hate thing. 😂🤣😂

  2. Ted, thank you for taking time and writing this answer. I also have a love/ hate relationship with my Tamron 150-600 mm which works also well when there is good light.
