This marsh was originally an old rice field. Well, half the basin was a rice field but this is a really big one.
These particular marshes are owned by the South Carolina Dpt. of Natural Resources. This part is 32 Km of undeveloped land.

This front marsh is a place you can walk for hours, photograph hundreds of bird species, and of course plenty of Alligators.

These were taken as a Great Egret flew along the edge a line of reeds. Open water is on either side of the grasses.
