The native cane in South Carolina is a very impressive plant. Tall, thick, and grows so tight it can be like a wall, a ‘Cane Break’.

Below the marsh has a thick break right along the waters edge. Even if it was dry you would not be able to walk through it. The big birds don’t go deep in.

Unfortunately it’s not uncommon to see a Heron or Egret with a sharp piece of cane lodged in their neck. It’s sharp also.
