The big herons, with their layers of feathers and wide wings, is one of my favorite wildlife photographs. This Great Blue gave me a great opportunity.

He didn’t fly far. It was like a change of position on the marsh bank of maybe 30 feet (9 meters). Enough for him to give a great display though.


I think they just look regal when they pose like this.
