Our first visit this year to Bear Island wildlife area. Each winter the lands are closed to support migratory birds. A metal gate blocks the causeway dike over to the island though some people stand along the banks photographing Tundra Swans each winter.

This Heron was walking just on the inside of the open gates, my first critter of the day. Which is why I took the shot.
A dull, dreary, morning with no sunrise at all.

We didn’t expect much. However, it’s good to get inside the area and discover this years downed trees, pot holes and craters early on.
