Spoonbills were gathering palm fronds for their nests. Most of the time we knew they were up there, but palm leaves are thick and getting a clear shot was hard. Besides, leaning over backwards with a big lens wears thin pretty quick.
I caught this bird right after he landed (unfortunately). In seconds he walked into the palms and was gone.

Fab! My ongoing “obsession” with these birds continues, and even though we don’t have them in the UK I’m always on the hopeful lookout for them in the right places when we visit family in TX.
Spring through summer they are on the Texas Gulf Coast in marshes. Like my Lowcountry Spoonbills they came up from South America and liked it.
