While I haven’t been able to get out to the swamps / marshes as often as usual I do still manage some time out shooting. These photographs were all taken in the back swamp of the Magnolia Plantation. It’s close and easy 😁.
This first shot is of a Great Egret working along the edge of one of the larger islands. Above are rookery trees, however the interior is home to most of the big Alligators here.

The turtles and gators always lay claim to the old wood ramps. The occasional Anhinga will climb up to dry off. The Alligator is their enemy so there’s no sharing space.

The Great Blues have eggs, or some even ‘fuzzy heads’. The best nest spots are always theirs. They come first so get to pick from the prime real estate.

The last image is one that starts the day there. The sun comes up and the hunt for sticks and food begins.

Charleston, South Carolina.
