Good Look At A Wood Stork

I usually like to shoot a little wide, getting some of the surrounding area in the shot. A better perspective.

Here I kept it close because how often does a Wood Stork wander right past you. Now very.

Based on the head and neck feathers I would guess this bird is just hitting adulthood. He might even breed this year. Which is great since a rookery is nearby and it’s one more victory for the storks. About 7 years ago they were nearly extinct in the Lowcountry, and much of the US. Places like the ACE Basin saved them.

  1. Good to see the storks recovering – managed to strike out in all my attempts to snap one while we were in Florida – oh well, there is always next year.
