The gates were open to many of the church graveyards recently. There are a few that are usually open daily, but others I pretty much need to be lucky. Charleston has so many church’s it is called the ‘Holy City’. And each old church has a graveyard. In fact there are so many books are published to help find them.
The oldest headstones are always of interest to me. I love their ornate, and macabre, carvings. The collection below are a good example of stones you would expect to see in New England cemeteries. Most likely all these headstones were ordered from stone carvers in New England and shipped down to Charleston. The skills were unique to northern carvers.

I love these images Ted
Thank you, appreciated. I never know how to publish a series like this. I love the old cemeteries and have several days of shooting never finished. I try to shot a theme during a walkthrough. One of the last visits I concentrated on the old wrought iron fences. I need a few rainy days to catch up. Thanks again.
