They are curious critters.
I was standing by a dike trunk photographing a bunch of his relatives when I noticed the large one below.
He must have been floating around for a while before he wandered over to watch me. The mottled look to his scales are really wet and very dry spots. Darker areas have just gotten wet while he moved over. The light, almost white spots are dried caked on mud. The mud became hard sitting on him in the warm sun. To get a good image it’s best to have a wet alligator. Now you have a perfectly good, and useless piece of information LOL.

BTW, it’s common for an alligator to come up closer and stare at you. In their world you’re just something new to look at. Probably no other thoughts whatsoever.
…gators staring out of curiosity only — oh I do hope so. I have heard of crocs attacking people in some countries. Perhaps this is a rare occurrence. 🤔 🙏
Alligators are different than Crocodiles. Alligators rarely bother people. It’s the people that bother the gators. Sad but true. And !! NEVER walk fido along the water.
Great photo Ted, looks like a dinosaur that’s looking for dinner to me!
If I was in the water with him I might agree LOL
