Along the Rhine River Valley in Germany, roughly between Rudesheim and Cologne, there are dozens of castles. Some dating back to the 12th century. They are so numerous in places you can see several at the same time on the hills over looking the river.
Many were damaged during the 17th century war with Louis XIV. Â Some have been restored, even in use today, but most are ruins.
