Mating Dance, Night Heron

He was working hard, I thought she was interested.

However, after a minute it looked like she didn’t think much of him at all.

I don’t think I have ever gotten one dancing before. You can see they like dense thickets and their privacy.

Black-crowned Night Herons.

Delivery, Heron

This Great Blue had been off in the swamp right behind the nest looking for the perfect branch.

Apparently he found it, as long as he doesn’t whack her in the head with this.

Sometimes when searching for sticks the Great Blue will pick around through piles until the right one is found.

Great Blue Pair, B&W

A photograph completed, in Black and White, for another web site. The site is a private group dedicated to the use of B&W and monochrome only.

Images like this I find to be much more difficult to process than color.  It’s so easy to have the main subjects get lost within a background with only shades and textures rather than distinct colors.

Full Breeding Colors, Roseate Spoonbill

During breeding season Spoonbills ‘enhance’ their pink color. Actually they become almost a rainbow.

Their famous pink color becomes the most subtle one.

Now it’s red, greens, and even deep orange.

They don’t stay this way very long. That’s probably a good thing. They can hurt your eyes LOL.
