Great Egret Fishing

A small series of a Great Egret fishing in the shallows. The bird waited for a fish to come by, we did too. Everyone was a winner…except the fish of course.

Great Egret Landscape

A white bird in a morning marsh combined to make this a landscape I personally like. This day I really didn’t want to shot birds. This is what I had in mind and I probably was able to capture at least 4 or 5 different scenes early on.

Of course once I got it out of my system I was sneaking around Spoonbills and Wood Storks as usual.

Egret Landing In The Reeds

Another ‘spectator’ type photograph. I tried to place the bottom half with reeds, top with the tree line, and stick the bird in somewhere. I did not want to crop the image other than to the standard 9×12.

It’s a good thing there were a lot of birds that morning. This was not my first attempt of the day, or even my second.

Great Egret, Home For A Visit ?

In the spring this tree, in the middle of water, had multiple active nests. Great Blue Herons and Egrets shared this single tree trunk.

The nests are long empty but it’s still a great spot for one of these guys to perch and nap.

Note: The sun was much too bright and I lost all definition of the white bird. Maybe I should have deleted it instead.

Slow Egret Over The Marsh

Tall reeds and grasses worked in my favor here (pretty rare).

I shot all these photographs at the minimum my lens would allow. The idea was to make the images all about the flight over the marsh, not just the bird.

There was plenty of activity this morning so I could afford to play around trying to get an in-flight series like this.

Most times a series like this is… nothing like what I saw in my head.

Tip Toe Through The Muck, Egret

This is a young bird and while I labeled it an Egret it might also be a young Little Blue. The angle of the photographs makes an ID a little difficult.

In clear water the color of the legs would be obvious. Young Little Blues have green legs. Wading around all the duck weed makes everything green.

A slight green tint around the eyes could mean a young Egret.

Perhaps I just should have titled this a ‘White Bird’ and covered all options.
