Fall and winter is the best time in Charleston to be at the shore.

Folly Beach, Folly Island, Charleston.
It’s been a while since any of the bigger shore birds have made an appearance on this site.
These photographs were all taken near a commercial shrimp boat pier. The birds will stay close since they get the ‘throw aways’ when the catch is off loaded.
At times, when several boats are pulling in, it becomes a bit of a circus with all the birds pushing and shoving.
Kingfisher, an impossible bird to photograph…making it look too easy.
The bridge is gone but some parts remnants are there. The Kingfisher above is sitting on an old rusty pillion.
Pitt street sits off the Charleston Harbor. Along here are Oyster beds.
So of course these Oyster Catchers wander around as the tide goes out.
Those big orange beaks can shuck an oyster faster than any seafood restaurant.
