Patient Red-tailed Hawk

This Red-tailed Hawk was not leaving his spot. Sitting in a dead tree over a sand dune he was sure dinner was in the brush below. Totally convinced of it.

The first photo I took was with a short lens, too small for this, but rule number one is take what you have been given, get clever later.

Once I saw he was too busy for me I took time and switched to a mid 300 mm lens and shot these images.

I never did see anything, he never gave up. We didn’t cross the line of going too close so he was there when we left.

Atlantic Ocean Or Sub Sahara ?

I wish I was better in Photoshop. Dali would have melted something here.

If I came to this shore often, as many people do, I probably would not be so focused on the various dead tree stands. But in the context of my camera view finder the scene is very different.

These 3 photographs, taken from various angles, were processed to be stark or glaring.  Without them looking too strange.

Photographer Laura Macky would probably have a field day with these.

Snowy Egret With A Wet Head

When I capture that moment a fishing bird goes to the water it is always taken from a side view, and at a distance. That’s why we use long lens. But not here.

I was standing above looking down into a small ravine. An unbelievable angle. Only problem was he missed !

And not too pleased about it either.

Sunset Shrimp Boats

This is not the first set of photographs I have shot here. I have found the season is over until some time in March. Not being a fisherman type person it never occurred to me how often they were tied to the pier (like always).

I was there midday and all the ships were in. Someone mentioned how many pelicans would be around once they started the season again. The light came on, slowly.

It worked in my favor, I shot the boats during early sunsets.

Eurasian Eagle Owl

They are not related to an Eagle at all. The name Eagle Owl comes from their large size. Well, very large size.

Here the owl is being trained to fly between several posts, chicken is the motivation. This owl will give educational demonstrations at the Center For Birds Of Prey, South Carolina.

BTW, a small group of people were included here as ‘props’. Basically stand in the way and let the owl fly over or around you.
